How Supermarkets and Shops Make Us Spend More Money

Supermarkets and shops have special tactics up their sleeve to tempt you into buying more. There was a time when people were afraid to put things into their shopping trolley when the idea of a supermarket was new. Now, what happens is people will essentially fill their shopping basket or whatnot from the get-go, and they will be doing this highly impulsively. Remember when we said they do this by the successful establishment of different tactics that take advantage of your impulsive psyche. Well, this what we talk about here:

supermarket

Pester Power:

Ever wonder why your children (if you have some or one for that matter) start pestering you for junk food at your favorite supermarket. Well, this happens for a reason, as supermarkets carefully place their sweet things like chocolates at a stand close to the cash register, so children or impulsive buyers can see it, and then would want to buy. Children will especially begin to pester their parents to get them that are there on one of the stands near-by or on the cash registers. This is what psychologists call "pester power" of the children to make their parent subdue to their wishes for buying junk food near or on the cash register.

Pricey items at the middle of the shelves:

You may or may have not noticed that the priciest items are found in the middle of the supermarket display shelf. Again, there is a reason behind it too. They know most of their visitors or prospective shoppers tend to have an eye-level that equates to the middle of the display shelf. Most of these shoppers will be in a hurry to buy their things and groceries, so they will pick up the thing that is right in the middle. This way the market's more expensive items tend to go faster. If you want something that tends to be less expensive, then look for them in the lower or upper part of the shelf.

Limited time offers and promotion tables:

A promotion table or a limited time offer is exactly made to make you buy a single thing in more numbers. These are usually represented by big banners, and huge numberings of the price. People at the stores and the supermarket do exactly this, by buying lots of counts of one thing that is at a promotion table or an aisle that says limited time offers.

The essentials are kept at the end of the supermarket or grocery stores:

In a grocery store or a supermarket, when something like egg or milk comes up, the managers will keep them at the back end of all the stores and supermarket. People will always come to buy their essentials, which are important for a daily balanced diet, but they would travel all the way back to it. In the process they will go through many different aisles, limited time offers, promotion tables, middles shelves, and free samples. This way they are bound to attract to some of these tactics or things kept at different aisles they will pass, therefore making them buy more than they need.
